Hello Dear,
Please specify what kind of internet service you intend to use...Is it a static IP connection using a proxy server or a bsnl broadband etc ?

Moreover in general, there is a pretty straightforward interface for configuring network connections...For broadband, use at the terminal:
$ sudo pppoeconf

and then follow the instructions that follow...
