The same reason as not wanting GIF or PNG support, I think: to keep size
and dependencies down if you want Gnash for something very specific.

And on that note: configure --help has options from GNASH_PKG_FIND such
as --disable-gif (and --enable-speex) which apparently don't work. I
think they should, and I'd be grateful if someone would do it and / or
show me how to.
