Follow-up Comment #4, bug #32829 (project gnash):
The swfdec sources wind up in the tarball because of the fetch via a
dist-hook. Using filter-branch, the entire swfdec testsuite is a total of 53M,
but 49M of it is the trace sub-directory. This includes the git history as
well.
