Hello,
As I typing I'm currently in the process of installing gNewSense (on the
other pc of course) and getting rid of Ubuntu.
I decided to do this after I read some comments on Ubuntu mailing list
about their being proprietary drivers/firmware in Ubuntu and after doing
a search through the source packages to find that this is indeed true, I
felt a bit cheated since the projects goals (on the surface it seems)
was to create a completely Free Software distro, but this ideal has
gotten lost somewhere along the line and it seems for quite some time
I've been unwittingly using binary drivers (no wonder that wireless card
worked so well!) all the time thinking "it's Ok they said it was Free
Software, they wouldn't lie.", I probably should have seen it coming,
what with the proprietary 'launchpad' system and the propriety software
used for their support forum (although I'm told the forum is not
official, it still reflects badly).
So now, as a new gNewSense user, I want to know, "what can I do to help?".
I'm not so good at the coding (c,c++ etc.) side of things, although I'm
always willing to learn, but one thing I am good at is web development
(mainly php), I spent several years working on the phpBB project
(http://www.phpbb.com) so any thing I can do to help in this field I'll
be willing todo in the spare time I have.
I notice that the project as yet has no forum, only a mailing list, so
obviously should the project want to change this I'm more than willing
to help and share my experience in this filed.
Until then I'll use gNewSense for my desktop, report any bugs I find and
advocate it to my friends.
Thanks,
- Daniel Taylor
