I don't know. The gnash developers seem to be aware of it
(http://www.mail-archive.com/address@hidden/msg01694.html), so I bet
there's a good reason (maybe they are using some code too, since swfdec
is LGPL). For YouTube, I use ytplay.bash
(http://www.prism.gatech.edu/~mflaschen3/gnewsense/ytplay.bash).

P.S. The next release of Gnash is supposed to support Youtube
