Problems compiling all versions of gnokii (and cable question)

Hello there, I used to use gnokii when it only supported the 61x0/51x0 series
of Nokia phones, and I'm now planning to get back to it.

I tried getting the cvs tree and compiling it, but I got a bunch of errors
right during the compilation of the first piece of code (generic.c), and the
same happened with 0.5.1-pre1 (release) and 0.4.3.

This is what I have:
address@hidden:~/test/cell/gnokii$ aclocal
address@hidden:~/test/cell/gnokii$ autoheader
address@hidden:~/test/cell/gnokii$ autoconf
address@hidden:~/test/cell/gnokii$ ./configure
--prefix=/home/jollino/test/cell/gnokii-stuff --enable-security
[...]

    Debug: no

The same thing happened even when using no arguments to ./configure, after a
make distclean and also if I tried using autogen.sh which worked fine (apart
from a warning that read "You should update your own `aclocal.m4' by adding the
necessary macro packages gettext.m4, lcmessage.m4 and progtest.m4 from the
directory `/aclocal'", but it doesn't look fatally harmful to me).

This box was originally a Slackware 7.0, but has gone through a lot of upgrades
during time.
Most notably:
address@hidden:~/test/cell/gnokii$ gmake --version
GNU Make version 3.79.1, by Richard Stallman and Roland McGrath.
address@hidden:~/test/cell/gnokii$ gcc --version
2.95.3

Any hints would be grately appreciated.

Thanks in advance :)

Another little question: can a DLR-3P cable be used with a nokia 51x0/61x0?
