ooo, this helped, it more or less halved the time down to 8-9 seconds :-)

I saw this but an still looking into it as it means I'll have to put a
more up to date version of perl on the box (it is a very old box) and I
need to make sure that won't break anything else :-\ Why is nothing
easy?? :-)
