Raw GSM audio connection for GSM-Asterisk Gateway

Hi,
do you think it is possible to make a raw gsm-audio connection over a
seriell cable? Is something like this already in gnokii?

When it is possible to make a audio connection, a gnokki-asterisk module
could be build, and there would be a cheap Voip/ISDN-GSM Gateway.

Searching the web the only solution for a GSP-Asterisk connection is
GSM-Bluetooth-Asterisk:

But this is alpha, and I don't think it is ready for use.
