Please note that this setting has nothing to do with nk6100 driver.

No.

Good starting point is gnokii-hackers-howto explaining the
architecture and developers' guide wiki
(http://wiki.gnokii.org/index.php/Developer%27s_Guide). Daniele Forsi
gave also some hints on his blog.
