When I discussed this few years ago I got a clear message that if
there are new features in new version (that is not only bugfixes)
that's NO-GO because all the distribution needs to be retested and
some other dependencies to be recompiled. Especially when we bump the
version of libgnokii.

Well, reporting that tool is not usable maybe good, but still I'd say
that could be tough to get through the process. And in fact the
version to be released next week would be a big step forward (there
are serious problems with 0.6.28)

PPA is actually the way upstream provides the bleeding edge versions.
There are even manuals for that but I didn't manage to get through.
