I am curious whether anyone can help to estimate or measure several
particular quantities using publicly available resources.
These are (and I'm not using RH here to pick on them):
NL: the average number of new or modified lines
of source code released by RH in a year.
NLX: of those lines counted in NL, the number of
new or modified lines executed within 12
months of release by more than 3% of RH
customers.
NP: the number of employees of RH who authored
one or more of those lines
NPP: the number of employees of RH or an RH partner
who authored one or more of those lines
NPR: the number of engineering employees of RH whose
duties include integrating those lines into the
source code comprising an RH release
NPPR: the number of engineering employees of RH or an
RH partner whose duties include integrating those
lines into the the source code comprising an RH
release
Obviously there are various ratios among these numbers that would be
of interest.
