XML is very very different from binairy text; as applications will ignore
ordering of Elements when ordering is not needed so you are allowed to switch
ordering without anything breaking (for example)
Your example uses different Attributes (the 'name1', 'name2' variable names)
which make a merge like:
<foo name3="val2" />
plainly illegal.
I find it quite annoying that you (plural) simply tell others they are wrong
since you can't see how the solution could work.
I noticed this before on various subjects, but I let it slide.
This time you trotted onto my terrain of expertise and the people that _think_
they are knowledgable about the subject and clearly make bogus claims are
very annoying to discuss with.
I'll leave it by repeating that the problems you think are un-solvable have
been solved and the solutions are used daily by many many people.
Its like the oracle said; you can't look beyond a decision you don't
understand. I think I know what she meant with that. Pinpoint that decision
and learn more about it if you want to go forward in life.
