	I do almost all of my coding on a mac with vim, via tcsh in a variety 
of programming languages (java, objective C, OCaml, python...stuff like 
that).  It works pretty well for me most of the time.  I do end up 
changing stuff for xcode projects (ignore pbxuser files and .DS_Store 
files), but  I'm not sure what problems you're talking about (maybe I'm 
overlooking them?).

	It does seem a bit unlikely that someone would want to move *only* a 
tag.  I suppose the use case would be someone who moved something and 
forgot to move the tag, and would want to go back and move the tag.  
Then again, it might be just as easy to move the file back, or use an 
``id only'' flag.
