I agree. I've never gotten anything useful out of either midi2ly or
midi2abc.

I know there are people who take the MIDI files on my website and turn
them into usable music, and I know people who speak well of both the
Finale and the Sibelius midi-notation converters. So it's obviously
possible to do, but I don't know what it is they (either the people
or the software) do differently from what I do.
