Should we categories programs in the Ports-like system (from here on
PLS until a new name is found)?
The BSD's do it, no idea in what way. I was thinking if we maybe
could use the Free Software Dictionary (FSD) and use the categories in
there, but they have it categorised into sub-categories. Somehow I
think this would be a bad idea if used directly
(ex. productivity/address/ for address-books).
What I was thinking is that we take the main categories, put the
packages into that, and then maybe just include a "category" variable
in the Makefile for each package. This can be used when doing a
search (which needs to be implemented).
(and the bonus of using the FSD is that we can cannibalise all the
short/long descriptions! And there should be a script that updates
all the fields we snatch from the FSD in all the Makefiles)
