Yes, agreed. That's why I didn't put it into CVS. I just put in
the framework so that people could hack it (and hopefully
report back). It's not ready for prime time yet. (But it's
enough to do some testing)

Please, PLEASE, do not make COMP-1 equal to FLOAT-SHORT and COMP-2 equal to
FLOAT-LONG - or at least make this "selectable" (under UNUSUAL conditions)

COMP-1 and COMP-2 originated with IBM and are typically (even on the PC - by
default) a "hex" floating point that has NOTHING to do with IEEE floating
point.  FLOAT-SHORT and FLOAT-LONG *should* be implemented as IEEE.
