If I was me, I'd open a line sequential data file for output and write out your plot data in a way that something like gnuplot can use.

I am trying to translate an application written as a spreadsheet into
COBOL. The only part that is giviing me trouble is the spreadsheet
page that displays an xy chart with data points and a trend line.
I tis dynamic; as data points on other cheets change the chart
changes.  Obviously I have to call on an app other than COBOL for
producing this. I work in Linux almost exclusively but I would want
to have this app portable to Windoze as well.
