[open-cobol-list] programming problem

Given a field in a line sequential file that is the result of a web 
page, and a 7 character alphanumeric field that may be in the form 
1.2345   
12.345
6
etc. all left justified, how to put the data in a numeric field with 
the least effort,  so that computations can be done.
