How about trying to import from
/cdrom/
/dev/cdrom/
/media/cdrom/
/mnt/cdrom/
and asking for confirmation if no source data is found ?
Would that work ?

Even just setting up the tables would help. A
server/bootstrap/README.AMIS could explain the steps necessary
for loading the data.
