If backend connection fails for whatever reason, the state of entered data
should be saved in a temp file locally so that no data gets lost. A message
should pop up (yes, pop up in this case since continuing to work is
pointless) informing the user about the nature of the failure and how to
resume work without data loss once the failure is corrected

The widget simply alerts the user via optical +/- acoustical alerts about the
error - preferably without any pop-ups.
