The PG inheritance is fairly limited. It is only safe to use
(re data rows being where they are supposed to be) if one
never ever inserts/updates/deletes into parent tables. Only
selects are fine. To make this more manageable it is wise to
not nest deeper than *one* parent-child level.
Changing data in the parent table does NOT reflect that change
in child tables. No row in child tables is touched then.
So I operated from the firm principle to use inheritance
exclusively for providing common fields to a range of child
tables.
