actually, gnumed gui clients are in a lot better position than a gnumed web system
to use long running transactions, because all they have to do is hold one
connection for each client, whereas web applications are usually expected to
do connection pooling; it's possible for a web app to reserve a connection
from the connection pool to user sessions, in order to give clients long running transactions, but then the web app isn't really for scalability , just a convenient way of deploying
client UI updates.
