to use long running transactions, because all they have to do is hold one connection for each client, whereas web applications are usually expected to do connection pooling; it's possible for a web app to reserve a connectionfrom the connection pool to user sessions, in order to give clients long running transactions, but then the web app isn't really for scalability , just a convenient way of deploying
client UI updates.
