Very interesting. I didn't even know there was a problem.
Also, I didn't change anything related to font handling.
What I did change is that the DOB is now formatted according
to locale rules in the top panel.

I sort of doubt this was a GNUmed problem. Rather something
to do with installed fonts, default font selection in the
gtk/wxwidgets toolkit/desktop environment/window
manager/themeing.
