Hi
I have upgrade to gnumed-client .4.2, however the database is at .
3.9.2.
Should it not be .4.2?
No, see the wiki link positioned immediately below Downloads i.e.
Release Status

There is a thread on the devel archive from Sept 24 2008 "versioning

(arbitrarily) change both when only one needed changing would have
brought their own complications.
Since we are on the question
- what is the easiest way to query the version of GNUmed database
being connected to?
- can this query be built into the client as a troubleshooting or
About GNUmed menu option or maybe
GNUmed > Options > Database > Version info
- is there any concept of a "server version" that needs to be kept
track of?
