 it's sorted.  yes the situation is real, but... allow me to illustrate:
when you receive those two bits of paper, they're not the same piece of
paper, are they?  when the piece of paper from Lab A arrives after the one
from Lab B, the one from Lab B doesn't disappear from the universe, does it?
:)  nor are the two pieces of paper somehow quantum-entangled _literally_
physically identical but somehow exactly the same piece of paper, are they?
:)  yegods, the person who managed to do that would be a billionaire
overnight...

it just so happens that they have the exact same _information_ on them, yes?
the fact remains that you, as a human, can determine that, from context and
from ringing up both Lab A and Lab B to double-check, but to expect a
computer program to guess that is a) a recipe for disaster b) bound to cause
problems.

thus, the database design reflects in a literal and faithful way the
real-world existence of the two "bits of paper", _not_ the
(coincidentally-identical) information _on_ the "bits of paper", and it's up
to you, the praxis administrator, to take that into account, see the
identical information (or in some cases otherwise!) and red-flag the
discrepancies with the two Labs, just as you would do with two identical (or
otherwise!) "bits of paper".
