In Debian there are (unfortunately) very few chances to override the
opinion of a maintainer of some package.  Sometimes by chance you have
some very opinionated maintainers and probably this is the case for wx.
This might have a strange look on Debian ... but it is not "the Debian
folks" but a single person who is by chance not as cooperative as others
usually are.
