Coming back to the issue of implementation, according to

in the intel compilers OpenMP directives are analised *after* the
translation to the intermediate representation. Hence, they don't
implement any source-to-source transformation.

I am pretty budy at work at the moment, probably I won't be very active
this month, just wanted to point out that article, which, while not very
deep, is sort of interesting.
