Personnally, I see where you are coming from.  The new NMEA2000 support
in gpsd is close enough to OBD data (both are CAN based) to be a nice
start for an obdd.  OTOH, I don't see a lot of commonality in the end
goals of gpsd and obdd.  But neither do I see any great conflict.

So, speaking personally, if you submitted patches to gpsd that can
be disabled at compile time they might be accepted if you can keep the
changes fairly unintrusive to the core gpsd functions and goals.

The other option is also open to you.  Since gpsd is BSD licensed it
should be easy for you to fork the code if that eventually seems best.
