This is the 48-hour warning. Get any final fixes in now.
There have, once again, been few problems this release cycle; the
codebase remains pretty stable. We could have gone longer without a
release but for the continuing if sporadic reports of excess power
drain due to buzzing on buggy select(2) implementations.
Though the adaptive-delay code was developed and proven on a
Raspberry Pi, the big win in my judgment is addressing this under
Android.
I may not have been explicit about this before, so I'll state it now:
I consider Android our most important deployment by far. Because
Google Maps; nothing, not even the madly cool stuff like the robot
submarines, matches the real-world impact of a billion smartphones.
We will be shipping with a major bump in object-library and API
versions this time. Technical pressure for significant changes in the
way the skyview and a few other things are represented had been
building up over the last year.
