My experiences basically match Gary's. I work in a 7-story steel frame
building and have an office with a north window. Often I have an etrex
30 on my belt that's still on when I go inside, and I forget about it
until I go to an interior room and then it beeps at me for loss of
signal.
Modern phones do worse than the etrex30 in reception. I agree that this
is likely a power/performance tradeoff.
