Hi, I installled gpsd on some raspbian os for about two years from the sources without problems. The version which is installed via apt-get is rather old. You can get a newer version from git://git.savannah.nongnu.org/gpsd.git, but you have to install scons2.3.1 before.

first test which version is installed: gpsd -V, I got gpsd3.6

Download scons 2.3.1 and extract it with  tar xf scons-2.3.1.tar.gz
git clone git://git.savannah.nongnu.org/gpsd.git
sudo apt-get install chrpath
sudo apt-get install libusb-1.0.0
sudo apt-get install ncurses-dev
sudo apt-get install python-dev
change to directory scons2.3.1
and execute python.setup.py

then do
sudo scons testregress
sudo scons install
sudo scons udev-install

you may test which version of gpsd  is installed: gpsd -V

If you got the old version , rename the old gpsd in /usr/bin and copy the new version to /urs/bin
then do a: sudo service gpsd restart

regards
Victor
