No - Bernd didn't actually ask me, so I'm not sure how he knows my
reasons :-)
My problems with updating are documented in
http://bugs.debian.org/196762. I'd love to update, but the conflicts in
grops were hideous and I never managed to figure out a working
resolution ...

I could even just drop that new version of groffer into the Debian
package; no problem with that.

Debian currently has texinfo 2.6.
