I have used a separate small hfs+ partition, works well, and fast if blessed.

The EFI FAT32 partition is OK and a good backup if using rEFIt to recognise it without needing to bless, but cant be blessed --folder.

That sounds like something worth trying.  We don't know if it's
working because it's in an HFS+ partition or if it's working
because it's in the same parition as OS-X.

Maybe I'll stick in a USB flash drive with a GPT partition
table and an HFS+ partition.
