well, I was rather meaning something like "the current devel version"
-- I don't track automake closely (well, at all).
I just downloaded automake-1.4-p2 to read the NEWS file, and it
appears that it doesn't fix BUILT_SOURCES and related ugliness.
however it seems to be needed anyway if we are going with the latest
autoconf...
