   done, will do.

this is now done for both branches, with the exception of
devel/build/pre-inst-guile.text, which is only available on HEAD branch.
i tested w/ builddir!=srcdir and otherwise.  stable branch TODO updated.

i'm going to turn again to 1.4.1 release now.  my goal there has
expanded from "simple one-line fix" (the bad `inet_aton' proto) to
"build w/ latest auto* tools".  there have been a few small usage
changes, but nothing that would affect functionality.
