FWIW, this is really high on my to do list once I've released the first
version of Guile Config, which I aim to do this week.

I mentioned in the original thread that I was thinking about this
project but that that should not hold anyone back.  This is still the
case: if you want to go for this, do it — but now I can say I'll be
starting on this next week :-)
