I agree that this setup is "somewhat special" and makes people
(including me) uncomfortable.
Maybe it's time to re-evaluate the arguments for setting the repository
up as it is? Wouldn't one repository do the job at hand? It would
certainly be easier to use and to develop against...

This reminds me about 'garbage collection is evil' arguments with
people who haven't used lisp, and are in those first few years where C
still feels cool.
