I could say more: why use Guile instead other scheme environments?
I've been looking for a complete scheme development environment, and
I thought Guile could meet all my requirementes. But the time passes,
and I can't see more documentation, news, specs, releases... so I'm
starting to think that should use somethink like scsh for my shell
programming and mzscheme for developping and making my programs
extensible.
I think that guile developers are working hard, I've heard a lot of
interesting things in this list, but I can't see any results out of
here, and the worst thing is that _nobody_ out of here hears nothing.
Don't you think that the "release often, release early" method should
be used here?
guile's development climate is somewhat chilly because the people with
write privs have more programming than project management experience,
and often form (perhaps unintentionally) barriers to contributions and
other help from the community. it takes great skill and some art to be
able to consistently convert incidental alignments of interest into long
term cohesive effort (especially for volunteer projects), but usually we
see that the first step towards this kind of arrangement, namely the
recognition that long term cohesive effort has any value as compared to
short term personal glory, falters in some way or another. couple all
this w/ MIT-style DTRT approach and you get very little user-visible
"churn". (but, hey, what do you expect w/ a name like "guile"? :-)
what are all your requirements?
