Right.  For an existing tree,

  cvs -qz3 update -Pd -r branch_release-1-6

should work, as I recall.

Good idea.  That, along with some of the info from the more recent
docs should probably be integrated there.  I'll plan to add a todo
item for that when I'm working on guile next.
