README excerpt:
This directory contains mmci (multi-method check-in), a program
that abstracts the "cvs add" procedure to also handle RCS files
and Emacs-style backup files.
tarball in dir:
http://www.glug.org/people/ttn/software/mmci/
basically, a lame restriction has been removed: repodir now need not be
the same as newdir. this means both of these are supported:
mmci -r a/b/c a/b/c # repodir == newdir
mmci -r d/e/f a/b/c # repodir != newdir
in both invocations, files are taken from subdir a/b/c, the difference
is that in the former, ${CVSROOT}/a/b/c is created, and in the latter,
${CVSROOT}/d/e/f. let the confusion begin!
another change is that mmci now creates the the top repo dir under
${CVSROOT} automatically (in this example: "a" and "d"); you no longer
need to do that manually. aren't computers wonderful?
