The ‘core-updates’ build log you posted shows this:

The necessary bits to build these optional modules were not found:
_curses _curses_panel _dbm
_gdbm _sqlite3 _ssl
_tkinter nis readline
zlib

(Notice “_ssl” here, which is correctly found on ‘master’.)
This is now fixed by a2ab82d.
