Should Colorable.cloneColored() return itself, if attribute colors is 
empty or null? It would make the previous example cleaner - no ifs would 
be needed anymore:

         Color[] colors = (Color[]) vobColors.toArray(new Color[1]);
         bg = (ColorableVob)defaultBg.cloneColored(colors);
