I use Debian. Have it working without a problem. I have GNU Health
installed in Debian 6 ( Squeeze ) and Wheezy, running like like a
charm :-)

For Debian 6, you need to update the pip version. I used it the one
from backports. In Wheezy everything is in the default sources.
