ARPMATS to some degree duplicates the capabilities of APT. If it used
APT, it would support both RPM and DPKG natively.....
Given a file like this:
base=1.0-2
cfengine=4.1-7
dpkg=12.1-3
[...]
and a command line like this:
apt-get -qyy install `cat filename`
You could install packages of specified versions on the host. This list
of package names and versions could come from a database easily enough.
When combined with cfengine, it could prepare a system entirely and to
the specified versions in short order. When combined with ARPMAT, it
could support RPM and DPKG with no trouble and no extra configuration...
