Ok, so I'm getting a stampede of recommendations for ediff.  Sorry for the 
boneheadedness on my part.  What I was looking for was side-by-side 
windows, not frames, but it seems ediff can be configured to do that.

Now my problem is getting the keys to work.  When I type a space, it 
inserts a space into the buffer, instead of taking me to the next difference.
