Typing C-\ does not allow me to choose an input method, only
changes to another input method that allows me to type
'a to get an á. This though does not solve the problem of
entering an ^ (important in math in LaTeX), I still get a beep.
Neither is this an acceptable solution to enter characters with
accents. In other modes (e.g. text-mode) I can just press
the key on the keyboard that has the dead_acute symbol followed
by a to get á. That method is *the standard* method for typing
Icelandic. Note that the ^ symbol is a "dead" symbol on the
Icelandic keyboard. It is entered by pressing the key with the
dead symbol followed by pressing space.

Thanks
