Yes when I use c-h k it show ESC-x all the time.

Hmm experimenting with dpkg-reconfigure console-common has solved the
problem ! My installed keymap variant was one with Euro (latin 0) and
now I 've selected the PC keyboard (non-us 102 keys) variant. My Euro
simbol also works :-) with that version.
