If you use GNU `ls', you can do
C-u C-x d S RET RET
In English: you run `dired' with C-x d, almost as usual, except you
type C-u first. That lets you supply extra arguments to `ls'. You
add `S' to the arguments that are already there (probably `-al'), and
the S tells `ls' to sort by size.
