I'd recommend you start with "An Introduction to Programming in Emacs Lisp"
along with "The Emacs Manual" and then finish up with the "Emacs Lisp
Reference manual".  All three will come standard with future versions of
Emacs, but for now, you'll need to download the first and last off of
some FTP server.  The elisp manual should be installed for online access
because it's convenient to access it directly while editing code.
