i just built emacs-21.3. i run it. it writes the file.
then it:
on sparc: seg faults
on intel: core dumps.

the file is there. but if i try to byte-compile *.el
files, the file gets written and instantly deleted.

ahhh, yes, forgot: solaris 9. gcc.

configure --without-pop --x-includes=/usr/include \
    --x-libraries=/usr/lib --without-toolkit-scroll-bars

gcc 3.4.1

what the heck am i doing wrong?

I don't know (I'm not an operating system specialist :-)

Here's how I installed Emacs 21.3 on my Solaris 9 x86 desktop:

# as root:
pkg-get install emacs
